Trillium Lake Kid-Free Camping: The Weekender

Trillium Lake Camping (kid-free camping!) and kayaking

Last Updated: December 29, 2021

2 weeks of summer left, folks! The countdown is on! This week, I had a nice recharge by getting out in nature solo. Well not really solo, but without kids. As I mentioned on Instagram earlier this week, something I’ve struggled with in the first few years of motherhood is taking time for myself (away from home). I’m really good at getting out and adventuring WITH my kiddo. I’m not as good at prioritizing time away and actually making it happen. This is a goal of mine for the next year! Kid-free camping was a fun adventure.

Adventuring:

Kid-free Camping Trip at Trillium Lake – A mom friend and I were talking about going camping without the kids and it almost became one of those “yeah we should!!” ideas. But then we actually booked it! 24 hour camping trip to Trillium Lake near Mt Hood with girlfriends. Kayaking, SUP, drinks, camp food, hammock circle (no campfire because current burn-ban), and so much silliness and talking. So much talking. We stopped talking just to sleep! I can’t wait to plan another of these type of trips.

Kayaking the Willamette River – We took the Oru out twice this week on the Willamette here in Portland. Both to Swan Island and out at Cathedral Park. I’m still loving how easy it is to just put the foldable kayak in the car and go.

Writing:

This week…

The Best Active Indoor Play Toys for Kids [at Home!] – My huge round up post of all the indoor play active toys for toddlers, preschoolers, and young kids. And me? Yes, and some moms.

Suttle Lake Camping & Swimming at Scout Lake (Best Alpine Lake!) – an adventure recap of our camping at Suttle Lake and swimming and kayaking at Scout Lake in August. Currently, my favorite camping trip of the summer!

Reading/Watching:

Rick Steves The Story of Fascicm – Hat tip to Ashley, for pointing me to this on Kottke. Rick Steves made a video in March 2019 about the history of fascism in Europe. I’ve always respected Rick Steves for speaking out and and speaking his truth even if it doesn’t align with some of his customer base. A history yes, but we should be paying attention.

Using/Buying:

I’m not in a shopping mood this week, but some great Labor Day Sales going! I do need to order some next size up PJs for my kiddo though.

Labor Day Sales:

  • Madewell – Promo code HIFALL – up to 50% off
  • J.Crew – promo code BYESUMMER – extra 70% off sale items
  • Gap – promo code SHOP – 40% off everything or SALE – extra 50% off sale items
  • REI – sale ends Monday (my top picks here)

Hope you’re having a lovely weekend!
